This girl. My Frannie girl turned 7. She is proof that what God has tucked in his shirt pocket, tucked away safe, waiting for his right time, is infinitely better, better than anything I could even think to ask for. We didn’t ask. We were not prepared, but he reached in his shirt pocket, tucked away safe, tight next to His heart, scooped her up, uncurled his hand, and there was Frannie, our girl. For some reason that I won’t ever understand this side of the clouds, He made me her mama. Her “first mama” called me from the hospital and asked me to come get this tiny baby, only 2 pounds. What does one hurting mama with aching arms say to another? There are many moments in my life that words cannot define. This was one of those moments. Because I had to say something, simply, ” I am coming. I love you strong mama, hang on. Thank you, thank you, thank you.” And to my God, who filled my arms right as cancer took my womb, just thank you. It is all I have, it is not enough, so I try to live my Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
